Talk to Tyler

I was talking to my friend Jim one night about advice columns and how weird I thought they were. He disagreed. In fact, he showed me  sound advice that he’d gotten  from fucktheory and Coquette, two bloggers who he really enjoys and respects. He told me that I’d given him advice that was more grounded in reality than a lot of the suggestions they gave out. I told him it was probably because I knew him better. He said, “No, I don’t mean to me, I mean in general.” Then I remembered that my friend, mentor, and former boss at the IMAGE Center, Mike Bullis had a section of our blog that he called “Ask Mike,” where he doled out practical, disability-related advice to IMAGE Center clients. Suddenly, advice columns didn’t seem like the ramblings of desperate people at the mercy of arrogant and unsympathetic  news writers using a pseudonym. After a good deal of thinking about what I want this blog to be other than a space to share my work and get my name out there, I decided that the occasional advice post  would be a smart idea. It’ll make my online presence more accessible, give me more to talk about than myself, and maybe even help people solve problems. I’ve barely built a readership yet, but if I have some quality questions by this time next month, I’ll do a post. I’m looking for people with CP who want to stretch on their own, budding writers who need help getting their creative flow moving, newly radicalized lefties who need help reconciling their views with day-to-day life in the good ol’ USA, and just about anyone else who thinks I might have something to offer. Questions can be asked anonymously or with first name only attached. Tweet me, send me an email, and we’ll see if we can get this thing off the ground.
